In the fifth Verfe the Sum of the Apotiles Dottrine, which he had contended for, and what he had proved, is expreffed. But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that juflifieth the ungodly, his Faith is counted for Righteoufnefs. It is granted on all hands , that the clofe of the Verfe his Faith is counted for Righteoufnefs, loth exprefs the Juttification of the perfon intended. He is juftified, and the way of it is, his Faith is counted or imputed. Wherefore the foregoing words declare the Subje& of Jutti- fication, and its qualification, or the defcription of the Per- fon to be juftified with all that is required on his part thereunto. And firft, it is laid of him, that he is, á , , tin,46.ykp -; who worketh not. It is not required unto his Juttification that he fhould not work, that he should not perform any Duties of Obedience unto God in any kind, which is working. For every perfon in the world is always obliged unto all Duties of Obedience, according to the light and knowledg of the Will of God , the means whereof is afforded unto him. But the expreffion is to be limited by the subje 2 matter treated of. He who worketh not, with relpett unto yufl'ifa= cation ; though not the defign of the Perlon, but the Nature of the thing is intended. To fay , he who worketh not is juflified through believing, is to fay that his Works what- ever they be, have no influence into his Juftification , nor bath God in juftifying of him any refpeet unto them. Where- fore he alone who worketh not, is the fubjeét of Juttification, the perfon to be juftified ; that is, God confidereth no mans Works, no mans Duties of Obedience in his Juttification; feeing we are juftified .r ç v i áoñs y1e<l1, freely by his Grace.
