IMMENIk- in the Epifiler of St. Paul, &c. propoled as the prime object of our Faith in our Juftification, and oppofed directly unto all our own Works whatever. The whole of Gods delign herein, is, that Grace may reign through Righteoufnefs unto eternal life. Whereas therefore this is made molt evident and confpicuous in the Death of Chriff, our Juftification is in a peculiar manner affigned thereunto. 2. The love ofChrift himfelf and his Grace are peculiarly exalted in our Juftification 5 that all men may honour the son, even as they honour the Father. Frequently are they expreffed unto this purpofe, 2 Cor. 8.9. Gal. 2. 20. Phil. 3. 6, 7. Rev.'. 5, 6. And thole allo are molt eminently exalted in his death, fo as that all the effects and fruits of them are afcribed there- unto in a peculiar manner. As nothing is more ordinary than, among many things that concur to the fame effect, to afcribe it unto that which is molt eminent among them, efpecially if it cannot be conceived as feparated from the reft. 3. This is the cleareft Teftimony , that what the Lord Chrift did and fuffered was for us, and not for himfelf For without the confideration hereof, all the Obedience which he yielded unto the Law, might be looked on as . due only on his own account, and himfelf to have been fuch a Saviour as the socinians imagine, who fhould do all with us from God, and nothing with God for us. But the fuffering of the curie of the Law by him who was not only an innocent man, but allo the Son of God, openly teflifies that what he did and fuffered was for us , and not for himfelf. It is no wonder therefore if our Faith as unto Juftification be in the firft; place, and principally directed unto his Death and Blood- fhedding. 4. All the obedience of Chrift had (till. refpec`t unto the Sa- crifice of himfelf, which was to enfue, wherein it received its accomplifhment, and whereon its efficacy unto our Jufti- fication did depend.
