Paul, &c. 5 o Socinus Prefaceth his Anfwer unto this Teltimony with an Admiration, That any thould make ufe of it, or plead it in this caute, it is fo impertinent unto the purpore. And indeed, a pretended contempt of the Arguments of his Adverfaries is, the Principle Artifice he makes ufe of in all his Replies and Evafions 5 wherein I am lorry to fee that he is followed by mott of them, who together with him, do oppofe the Imputation of the Righteoufnefs of Chrift. And fo of late the ufe of this Teftimony which reduced Bellarmine to fo great a ttrair, is admired at, on the only ground and reafon wherewith it is oppofed by socinus. Yet are his exceptions unto it Inch, as that I cannot alto but a little on the other hand wonder, that any learned Man thould be troubled with them, or feduced by them. For he only pleads, That if Chrifi be faid to be made Righteoufnefs unto us, becaufe his Righteoufnefs is imputed unto us ; then is he raid to be made Wifdom unto us, becaufe his Wifdom is fo imputed, and fo of his sanaification which none will allow ; yea, he mull be redeemed for us, and his Redemption be imputed unto us. But there is nothing of force, nor truth in this pretence. For it is built only on this Suppolition, That Chrift mutt be made unto us of God , all thefe things, in the fame way and manner ; whereas they are of fuch different natures, that it is utterly impoffible he fhould fo be. For inftance, he is made Sanai- fication unto us, in that by his Spirit and Grace we are freely fanCified. But he cannot be faid to be made Redempti- on unto us, in that by his Spirit and Grace we are freely redeemed. And, if he is faid to be made Righteoufnefs unto us, becaufe by his Spirit and Grace he works inherent Righ- teoufnefs in us, then is it plainly the fame with his being made Sanaification unto us. Neither doth ht. himfelf believe that Chrift is made all there things unto us in the fame way and manner.
