And the words of Chryfoflome upon this place, unto the fame pur- pofe, have been cited before at large. To let out the greatnefs of the Grace of God in our Re- conciliation by Chrift, he defcribes him by that Paraphrafis N yvóv ái,ap;iav, who knew no fin, or who knew not fin: He knew fin in the notion or únderftanding of its nature; and he knew it experimentally in the effects which he under- went and fuffered ; but he knew it not, that is, was molt re- mote from it, as to its commijon or guilt. So that he knew no fn, is abfolutely no more ; but he did nofn, neither was guile found in his mouth, as it is expreffed z Pet. 2. 22. Or, that he was holy harmlefs undefiled feparate from (inners. He bath made him to be fin; that is, fay many Expofitors, A Sacrifice for fn. So the Sin and Trefpafs offering are often exprefl'ed by rwurt and pt», the in and trefpafs or guilt. And I (Nall not contend about this Expofition, becaufe that fignified in it, is according unto the truth. But there is another more proper fìgnifcation of the word; 4.12xpk, being put for áN tyros, fin for a finner; that is, PaJfvely not ACCCiively, not by Inh ton but Imputation, For this this the phrafe of fpeech, and
