I 0 The nature of yu/iification, as declared foolith and impious; For notwithftanding all our perfonal Righteoufneß we are finful, he knew no fin. And if the corn- parifon be between thrifts perfonal inherent Righteoufnefs, and Righteoufnefs imputed unto us, inh eßon and imputation being things of diverfe kinds, it is fond and of no confe- quence. Chrift was actively Righteous, we are paffively fo. When our fin was imputed unto him, he did not thereby . become a (inner as we are, actively and inherently a firmer, but paffivily only, and in Gods eftimation. As he was made yet knew no fin, fo we are made Righteous, yet are fnful in our felves. ( 4 ) The Righteoufnefs of Chrift as it was his perfanally was the Righteoufnefs of the Son of God; in which refpeft it had in it felf an infinite perfee`1ion and value ; But it is imputed unto us only with refpe t unto our perfonal want, not as it was f2tisfaclory for all; but as our Souls ftand in need of it, and are made partakers of it. There is there- fore no ground for any fuch comparifon. (5 ) As unto what is added by Bellarmine that we may hereon be faid to be Redeemers and Saviours of the World, the abfurdity of the aflertion falls upon himfelf , we are not concerned in it. For he affirms directly, lib. i. de purgator. cap. 14. That a man may be rightly called his own Redeemer and Saviour, which he endeavours to prove from Dan. 4. And fome of his Church affirms that the Saints may be called the Redeemers of others, though improperly. But we are not concerned in thefe things ; feeing from the Imputation of the Righteoufnefs of Chrift, it follows only that thofe unto whom it is imputed are Redeemed and Saved, not at all that they are Redeemers and Saviours. It belongs allo unto the vindication of this Teftimony to thew the vanity of his Seventh Argument in the fame cafe, becaufe that alfo is made ufe of by force among our felves,.and it is this.
