A ccepting of Perfons notaferibed to God by the Dat.ofSts Perf.C:XII. fiances. Not thatany errour or falfehoodcan indeedgive God the Glory of 263 anyone ofhis Attributes; butthat they may be fitted and fuited for fucha fervice, were not their throates cat, and their mouthes fiopt, by theLies that are in them, which Mr Goodwin's Doëtrine is no lefle lyable to then anyother; and not at all exempted from that Condition, by its Teeming fubferviency unto Gods Aprofopolepfïa, Dothnot the Do&rine of 7u liftcation by Worker evenin the molt rigid fence ofit, according to the tenor ofthe old Covenant, abfolutely render Godfree from the Unrighteoufneffe ofAccepting ofPerfens? And yet for-all that, it hath not one jot the moreof Truth in it, nor is it the leffe Anti-evangel/call . This foundation then being removed, what ever is built upon it moleruitfud.Neither is it in any meafure reftored, or laida news' by the reafonofit given by Mr G. via. That the scripture affirmeth infnndry places that Godit no accepter ofperfons: for he that thall hence conclude , that what ever Do&rine affirmed), direly, or byconfequence, that God is no Accepter ofperfons, what ever other abomination it is evidently deeming with all, is yet true, and according to the minde ofGod, (hall have leave notwithftanding the antiquated statute of our Vniverfity againft it, togod and reade Logicke at Stamford, On this account do but provide that a Do- ítrine be not guilty ofany one crime, and you may conclude that it is guilty ofnone. For inftance, That Do&rine which impeacheth not the omniprefence ofthe Diety,is true & according to theScripture, for the Scripture aboundeth withcleareTeftimonyesofthe Pretence ofGod in all places. Now the Do&rine ofthe Ubiquity of the humane nature ofChrifr, doth no way impeach the omnipresence ofthe piety; therefore it is true and according toScripture. I might fuperfedeall further confiderations ofthis Argument, havingren- dered it altogether ufelefle, and unferviceable, in this warfare, by breaking itsright legge, or rather crutch, whereon it leaned: but fomething alto may beadded to the Minor, becaufe ofits refle&ion in the cloféofitsproofeupon the Do&rine we maintaine , intimating an inconfiftency of it, with that Excellency ofGod fpokenof, namely, that he is no Accepter ofPer- tons. . Profopolepfia, or Accepting ofPerfons, is an evill in Judgment, when he who 4. 4. is to determine in caufes ofrighteoufnejfe, hath refpeél to perfonall things, that còncerue not the merit ofthe Caufe in hand, andjudgeth accordingly. This pro- perly canhaveno place in God,as toany bellowing of free Grace, Mercy; or. Pardon; There is Roome made for it,only when the things that are beflowed, or wrought, by it, are filch, as in Juftice are due; it being an Iniquity folely ancrdire&ly'oppôfed todifiributive 7ufiice,that rendrèth to every one accor- Exod:z32,3 dingtowhat is Righteousand due. That with God there be no Accepting 6,7,8,9. ofPerfons there inno more required, but this, that he appoint and determine Iob.3 i.34' equall Punifhtnents, toequall faults, and give equall Rewards, to equal! de- fervings. Ifhe will difpofeofhis pardoning Mercy, and freeGrace, to fome in Chrift, nottoothers, who (hall fayunto him whatdo.fi thou ? May he not de, what he willwith his owne? Sohe givetha peny to him that labourethall day, he maygive a pent' alfo to him that workethbut one houre. Now fuppofe that Mr G's Do'Jrinerender pod free from this, (or rather chargeth him not with it,)yet ifwithall iticallethhis Truth, Righteoufneffe,Faithfulnefle,Oath, and' Immutabill' into queftion, fhall it palle for aTruth, or be embraced ever the foon r ? But th flingofthis Argument lieth in theTaile, or clofe ofit, in the Re- §. 5. fle&ion infifted on upon thecommon DoElrineofPerfeverance as it is called: viz, thatit teacheth God tobe an accepter ofPerfons: This is Mr Goodwin's way ofArguingall along; When at any time be bath propofeda proofeof the
