He Controverfie about the Continuation of a Church - slate, and the Adminitiration of Golpel- Ordinances ofWorthip, is not new, in this Age, though force pride themfelves, as though the Invention of the Errour whereby they are denied, were their own : In former Ages, both in the Papacy , and among force of them that forfook it, there were divers who on a pre- tence of a peculiar Spirituality , and imaginary Attain- ments in Religion, wherein there things are unneceffary, reje1.ed their Oblervation. I fuppofe it neceffary briefly to confirm the Truth, and vindicate it from this exce- ption, becaufe though it be fuficiently weak in itfelf yet what it is, lies against the foundation of all that we are pleading about. But to reduce things into the leffer compafs 5 I íhall firft confirm the Truth by thole Argu- ments or Confiderations, which will defeat all the Pleas and Pretences; of them by whom it is oppofed 5 and then confirm it by pofitive Tettimonies and Arguments, with all Brevity poflible. Firfl therefore I thall argue from the removal ofall caufes, whereon fuch a Ceffation of Churches and Ordi- nances is pretended.
