190 What fort o f Churches Iftherefore it be granted, as I think it is, that Edif cation is the principal End ofall Church Communion, it is not intelligible how a man fhould be obliged unto that Communion, and that alone, wherein due Edification cannot be obtained. Wherefore, a Miniftry enabledby Spiritual Gifts, and ingaged by fente of Duty to labour conftantly in the ufe of all meanes appointed byChrift for the Edification of the Church, or encreafe of his Myftical Body, is required in fuch a Church, as a Be never may confcientioufly joyn himfelf unto. And where it is otherwife, let Men cry out Schifrne and Faction whilft they pleafe, Jefus Chrift will acquit his Difciples, in the Exercife of their Liberty, and accept them in the Difcharge of their Duty. If it be fiid, that if all men be thus allowed to judge ofwhat is heftfor their own Edification, and to acct ac- cording unto the Judgementwhich they make, they will be continually partingfrom one Church unto another, until all things are filled with difturbance and Confufion 5 I fay (i.) That the contrary Affertion, namely, that Men are not allowed to judge what is meet and beft for their own Edification, or not to aft according to the Judge- ment they make herein, may poffìbly keep up. fame Churches, but is the ready way to deflroy all'eligion.
