That not only as Chriftians, but as Reformed `Proteflants, we do agree in the Renunciation of the Doctrines and Worfhip of the Church ofRome, which are oppofed by the common confent ofall thofe who are ufually fo called. Yet this muft be added thereunto ; that if any in or of the Church ofEngland, fhould make an Acceffion unto any Parts ofthe Do&rine andWor- Ihip of the Roman Church, not avowed or warranted by the confent of the Church in its firfli Reformation, we are not, we cannot be obliged unto Communion with them therein ; and by their fb doing, the Original Bond ofour Communion is weakened, ifnot difl'olved. 2. There things being premifed, we (hall enquire in the firft place, what is the Rule ofthat Communionwith the Church of England in its 'Parochial ,Iffemblies which is required of us. If this be pleaded to be a Rule ofdivine Prefeription, we acknowledge that great dili- gence and humility are required unto the confederation of it, that we be not miftaken. And if it prove to be according to the MindofChrift, that is, of his Infbitu- tion, ifwe fail ofa compliancewith it, we are guiltyof Sehifnle. But if the Rule, prefcribing, limiting, and exacting this Communion, be not fo much as pleaded to be ofdivine Inflitution, whatever fault there may be in our diflènt from it, Schifine it is not; For Eccleflafri- cal8,l:ifne neither hath nor can have refpeCt unto any thing but divine Inftitutions.
