,r. The `Preface. r. As unto the fir. l Neforrners and Reformation in the Days of King Edward, the Plea from them and it,which we have been long accuflomed unto, is that they were Perlons, Great, Wife, Learned, Holy ; that Tome of them dyed Martyrs; that the workofthe Reformation was greatly owned and bleffed of God ; and therefore our :/'on-acquitenvy therein, but defiring a farther Re f<òrmation of the Church, then what they law and judg- ed neceffary, is unreafonable, and that what we endea- vour therein, though never fo peaceably, is Schfinatical. But, r. None do more blefs God for thePI/ Reformers, and the work they did, than we do ; none have an higher Efleem of their l'erfons , Abilities , Graces , and Sufferings thanwe have ; None cleave more firmly to their Do&rine, which was the Life and Soul of the Reformation then we ; nor delire more to follow them in their Godly Deign. They are not of us, who have declared that the Death of King Edward was an happi- nefs or no unhappinefs to the Church of England, nor who have reffe&ed on the Reformation as needlef, and given Affurance that Wit hadnot been undertaken, Sal- vation might have been obtained fafely enough in the Church of Rome ; nor were they ofus who have quefli- oned the Zeal and Prudence of the e7Wartyrs of thole Days in Suffering. We have other thoughts concern- ing them, another kind ofRemembranceofthem. 2. The Titles affigned unto them, of Wf, Learned, Holy, Zealous, are fully anfwered by that Reformation of-the Church, in its Doctrine and WorJhip, which God wrought by their Miniftry, fo that none without the higheft ingratitude can derogateany thing from them in thefe things. But it is no difparagement unto any of the Sons
