They are in his hand, as the IEgyptians were in Jofpb's,when hehad purchafed both their pexfons and their Ellates to be at arbitrary difpofal ; Andhe deals with them as Jofph did with thofe, fo far as any of the Ends of his Rule and Lordfhip are concerned in them. And, 2. judiciary, Sob. 5, 22, 23. As hebath powerover their Perfns, fo he hash regard unto their fins, Rom, 14.9. Ads 17. 3 z. ,Matto. 25.31. And this power he varioufly exercifeth over them, even in thisWorld, before he glorioufly exerts it in their Eter- nal Ruine. For, 1. He enlightens them by thofeheavenly fparks ofTruthand Reafon, which he leaves unextinguifhed in their ownminds, John a. 9. 2. Strives with them by his Spirit, Gen. 6.3. fecretly exciting their confciences to rebuke, bridle, yoke, afflict, and cruciate them, Korn. a. r4, 15. And 3. On fame of them he ads by the Powerand Authority of his Word : whereby he quickens their Confciences, galls their Mindsand Affections, reffrains theirLulls, bounds their Converfations, aggravates their fins, hardens their Hearts, and 'judges their fouls, Pfal. 45. Ifa. 6. 4. He exercifth Rule and Dominion over them in Providential Difßenfations, Rev. 6.15, 16. Ifa. 63. 1, 2, 3, 4. Rev.19. 13. By all whichhe makes way for the Glory of his final Judge- ment of them, AAs 1. 17, 32. Matth. 25. 31. Revel. 19. 20. Chap. zo. 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15. And all this will he do, unto the Ends I. Ofhis own Glory : 2. His Churches good, exercifeand fafety. And this is thefecond inllanceof the 'EaHeadofthe Dominion ofChrill in this World ; he is Lord over Perfnnr, Angels andMen. I I. The Secondpart of the Heirfhip and DominionofChrill,çonfifleth in hi§ Lord- thip over all Things befides, which added to the former comprize the whole Creation of God. In the diffribution of thefe premifed, the lieft that occur are Spiritual things, which alfo are of two forts : 1. Temporal, or fuch as in this life we are made partakers of; and 2. Eternal,the things that are referved for them that believe in the State ofGlory. The former may be reduced unto two heads; for theyare all ofthem either Grace, orGifts, andChrifl isLord of them all. I. All that which comesunder the name ofGrace in Scripture, which flowing from the free and fpecial Love of God, tends directly to theSpiritual andEternal Good of them onwhom it is bellowed, may bereferred unto four heads. For as the fountain of all thefe (or the gracious free purpofes of theWill ofGod from whence they all do flow) being Antecedent to theMillionof Chrift theMediator, and Immanent in God, it can be no otherwifegranted unto him, but in refpedofits Effects, whichwe (hall thew that it is. Now theft are; 1. Pardon offin, and the free Acceptation of the Perfons of finners, in a way of mercy. This is Grace, Ephef. z. 8. Tit. 3. 5, 7.
