The Spirit ofGod moved on the face of the waters, rt'wt0ri 113D`'!wwin is this is the Spiritofthe KingMeffiah ; by which they cannot deny but that all things were formed. And the Apoftle in this expreffion letsthe Hebrews know, that Jefut the Meffiah was that Word ofGod, by whomall things weremade. And fo the influence of thefe words into his pref;zt Argument is manifeft. For the Son, inwhom the Father had now fpoken to them, anddeclared the Gofpel, being his EternalWord, by whom the world and all Ages were created, there could be no question of his Authority to alter their ceremonious WorJhip, whichhe hinifelfhad appointed for a feafon. Before wepafs to the next Verfes, we maymark out thofe7nfiruelions, which the words patted through afford us in common, as ro the abiding intereft ofall Believers. The foundation ofthem is, That the Lord 'elks Chri(f, whois thegreat Pro- phet of bio Church under the lIew Tegument, the only Revealer of the Will of the Father, as the Son and Wifdom of God, made the Worlds, and all things contained in them. And therein, s. We have an illuftrious teftimony given to the EternalGodhead and Power ofthe . SonofGod ; for he who made all things is God, as the Apostle elfe-where affirms. And, 2. Unto the Equityofhis being made Heir, Lord and Judgeofall. No creature can decline the Authority,or wave the Tribunal ofhim that made.themall. And, 3. A (tablebottom ofFaith, Hope, Contentment and Patience, is adminiftred unto the Saints in all difpenfations. Hewho is their Redeemer, that bought them, hath all that intereft hi all things wherein theyare concerned, that the Sovereign right ofCreation can afford unto him ; betides that Grant which is made unto him for this very end; that they might be difpofedoftohis ownGlory, in their good and advantage, Ifa. 54; v 4. 5. rom this Order of things, that Chrift as the ,Eternal SonofGod having made the worlds, hath them and all things in them put under his power as Mediator and Headof theChurch ; we' may fee what afubferviencyto-the intereft of the Saints of the moll High, the whole Creation is laid and difpofed ín. And, 5. Theway ofobtaining a f neifled Inter1Jfin, and ufeof the things of the OldCrea- tion; namely, not to receive them meetly on thegeneralaccount as made by the Sonof God, but on the more efpecial oftheir being grantedunto him, as Mediator of the Church. And, 6. How menon both there foundations, are to be accountable for their ufe or abut of the thingsof the licitCreation. But betides their_particular Inflames, there is that which is more general, and which we may alittle infift upon from the Context and defign of the Apostle in this whole difcourfe, whofe confiderationwill not again occur unto us ; and it is, That God in in- finitewifdom orderedall things in the ftrff Creation, fo as that the wholeofthat work might befubfrvient to the glory ofhis grace in the new creationofall by Jefus Chriff. Bythe Son he made the worlds in the beginningof time, thatin thefulnefi of time hemight be the juff Heir and Lordof all. TheJews havea Laying, that the world was madefor the Meffiah which is thus far true, that both it, and -all things in it, were made, difpofed of, and ordered in their Creation, fo as that God might be everlattingly glorified in the workwhich he was defignedunto, and which by him he had to ae- complifh. I (hall confider it only in the prefent inftance; namely, thatby the Son he . made the worlds, that he might be the proper Heir and. ThisSon, or Wïfdomof God, declares atlarge, r. His Coexiffence with his Father fromEternity, before all, orany of thevifible or invifible Creation were byhis Power brought forth, v. 22, 23, and fo onward. And then fets forth the Infi- nite, Eternal and Ineffable Delight, that was between him and his Father, both before, and alto in thework ofCreation, v. 3o. Farther, hedeclares hispretence and co-operation with him in the whole work ofmaking the world, and the fevers! parts ofit, v. 27, 28, 29, 30. which inother places is expreffed as here- by the Apostle,' that God by Bbb 2 him
