ioß Expofitaon of the CH A P. I. Frances, Dan. 10. 13. yet being indeed fervants, Rev. 22.9. Heb. r. 14. There are no where faid tohaveThrones; the Kingdom is not theirs, but the Sons. And whereas ourLord jefusChriff promifethhisApofiles that they !hall at the lait day fit on Throne: judging the Tribes ofIfrael : as it proves their participation with Chrift in his Kingly Power, being made Kings unto God, Rev. a. 5. and their intereft in the Kingdom which it is his pleafure togive them, fo it proves not abfolutely that theKingdom is theirs, but his on whofe Throne theirs do attend. Neither doth the Throne imply denote the Kingdom of Chrift, or his fupream Rule and ominion ;2 but the Glory alto of his Kingdom; being on his Throne, is inthe hag. of his Glory. And thus becaufe God manifelts his Glory in Heaven , he calls thathis Throne, as the Earth is his footftool, ÌJa. 66. 1. So that the Throne of Chrift is his Glorious Kingdom elfewhere expreffed by his fitting down at the right band of the Majefly on high. Secondly, To this Throne Eternity is attributed ; it is ip C7 1p, for ever andever. So is the ThroneofChrift faid to b'e in Oppolition unto the frail mutable Kingdomsof the earth. Of the inereafe of his Government and Peace there flail be no end, upon the Throne ofDavid,. andupon bis Kingdom to order it, and to eliablifh it with judgement and with juffice from henceforth andfor ever, Ifa. 9. 7. His Dominion is an everlajting Domi- nion which (hall not pall away, andhis Kingdom that which (hall not be deftroyed, Dan, f14. Micah4.7. Pp,. 72. 7, 17. Pfeil. 145. 13. It (há11 neither. decayof it felt, nor ail through the Oppofition of itsEnemies : for hemull reign until all his enemies are made his footftool, 1 Cor. 1 S. 24, 25, 26, 27. Nor is it any impeachment of the perpe- tuity of the KingdomofChrift, that at the lot day he /hall deliver it up to God theFa.. thee : 1 Cor. 15. 24.. Seeing that then (hall be an end of all Rule. It is enough that it continue untill all the Ends ofRule be pettedly accomplìfhed ; that is, until all the enemiesof it be fubdued, andall the Church be faxed, and the Righteoufnefs Grace and Patience ofGod be fully glorified ; whereofafterwards. Thirdly, The fecond infigne Regium, is hisScepter. And this though it fomctimes alto denote the Kingdomit fell, Gen. 49.1o. Numb. 24.17. Ifa. 14. 5. Zech. 10. 11. Yet here it denotes the anual Adminiftration of Rule, as is evident from the 4djuna ofVprightne/f annexedunto it. And thus the Scepter denotes both theLaws- of the Kingdom, and the Efficacy ofthe Government it fell. So that which wecall aRighte- ous Government, ishere called a Scepter of Uprightnefs. Now the Means whereby Chrift carrieth on his Kingdom, arc hisWord andSpirit, with afubferviency ofPower in the worksof his Providence, to make way for the pro- grefs of his Word to avenge its Contempt. So the Gofpel is called, The red ofhis ffrength, Pfalm i1o. 2. See 2 Cor. Jo. 4., 5,6. He finites the earth with the rod of his mouth, and Jiayes the wicked with the breath of hit lips, Ifa. xi. 4. And thefe are at- tended with the fword of his Power and Providence, Pfal.45.3 Revel. 19.15. or Bit rod, Pfal.z.8. or fickle, Revel. 14. 18. In there things confitis the Scepter of Chrifts Kingdom. Fourthly,Concerningthis Scepter it is afrmed, that it is a Scepter ofVprightnefs. u,eAros, or Zia, denotes either the Natureof the Scepter, that it is firaight and right, or the Vfe of it, that it is liftedup or ftretched out, as was 'hewed in the openingof the words. In the firli fenfe it denoteth Righteoufnefs, in the latter Mercy. Ac- cording to the firff fenfe, the following words, thou haft loved Righteoufnefi , difhover the habitual root of his alfual Righteous Adminiftration. According to the latter, there is a peogrefs made in them to a farther qualification of the Rule ofChrift; or of Chrift in his Rule. But the former fenfe is rather tobe embraced; the latter Meta- phorbeing more (trained and founded only in one inflance that L.eememberin the Scripture, and that not takenfrom amongthe peopleofGod, but Strangers andOp- preifors, Either 5.2. The.Scepter then of the Kingdomof Chrift is a Scepter ofRighteoufnefl, becaufe all the Latos of his Gofpel are Righteous; Holy,Jult, full ofBenignityand Truth, Titus 2. 11, 12. And all his Adminiltration ofGrace, Mercy, Juflice, Rewards' and Punifh- ments, according to theRules, Promifes and Threats of it, in theConverfion, Pardon, Sandificatioh, Trials, Att unions,Chaftifements, and Prefervation ofhisEleB, in his convincing, hardening, anddeftrunion of his Enemies, areall Righteous, holy,unblame- able and good, Ifa. 1 s-.4, 5, d: Chap. 32.7. Pfal.145.17. Rev. 1 5.34. Chap. x6. 5. and as fuch will they be gloriouflymanifefted at the lag day, 2Tbeg:1. to. though in this prefent world they are reproached and defpifed. Fifthly,
