196 Expofitiön of the CmA pr IL Heaven, oé the world of the bleffed to comes he frequently indeed mentions Hea- ven, not abfolately, but as it belongsunto theGofpel world, as being the place of the confiant refidence ofthe High Prieft ofthe Church, andwherein alfothe Worfhip ofit is through faith celebrated. Fourthly, The Apoftle in thefewords infilis on theAntithefis which he purfueth in his whole difcourfe between the Judaical and Evangelical Church. Late; for what ever power Angels might have in and over things formerly, thisWorld tó come, faith he, is not made fubjett unto them, Now it is not Heaven and Glory that he oppofeth to the Judaical Church-ftateandWorfhip, but that ofthe Gofpel, as we fhall find in the progrefs of theEpiffle, which iotherefore neceffarily here intended. Fifthly, Ifby the World to come, the eternal bleffed ftateofGlory be defigned, to begin at orafter the general Judgment ; thenhere is a promife, that that bleffed eftate (hall de nova be put in fubjedion to Jefus Chrilt as Mediator ; but this is directly contrary unto what is elfe-where revealed by the faine Apofile, concerning the tranf-. adhons between the Father and the Son as Mediator at that, day, r Cor. 15.28. And when all Jball hefibduedunto him, thenfhall the Son all.; him(if be fubjelt unto b¢mwho've all thinsunder him, that Godmay be all in all. Whichwords if theydo not- abfolutely affert the ceafing ofthe"Kingdom of the Mediator, but only the order of all things unto Eternity in their fubjedion untoGod by Chrilf, yet theyare plainly exclufive ofthe grant of a newP.ower or Authorityuntohim, or of a-new making Jobjett of all things untohim. Adde unto all this, that the Apoflle proves the fubjeltion of this worldunto the LordChrift, and not untoAngels, bya teftimony exprelfing directly the prefent things of this world, antecedent unto the day ofjudgment. From what hätfrbeen difcourfed we conclude, that the Iro.tcl to come here expreffed; is the State and Worfhip of the Church under the Meffiah, called fo by the Apoftle according to theopal appellation which then it had obtained among the 7ewr, -and allowedby him until theMofaical ChurchJfatewas utterly removed. Andhe afterwardsdeclares how this comprizedHeaven it felfalfo, becaufe of the Refidenee ofour. High Friel in the Holieft not made with hands, and the continual admiffon of theWorfhippers unto the Throne ofGrace. This is thefubjeli of theApoftles Propofition, that concerning whichhe treats. Concerning this World theApontefirft declares negatively, that it is not madefubjeîf untoAngels. The fubjeding ofthis World to come unto any is fuch a difpofal of it, as that he or they unto whom it is put in fubjedion, fhould, as the Lord of ir, erect in- ftitute or fet itup, rule and difpofe of it being erected, andjudge or reward it in the end of its tourieand time. This is denied concerning Angels, and the denial.proved tacitly, becaufe no fuch thingis tefhfied in the Scripture. And herein the Apoitle either preventeth an Objection that mightseifefrorn the power ofthe Angels in and over the Church of old, as fame think ; Or rather proceeds in his defign of exalting the Lord Jcfus above them, and thereby prefers' the Worfhip of the Gofpel before that prefcribed by the Lawof Mofer. For he Teems to grant that theold Churchand Worfhipwere ina fort madefubjeti unto Angels ; this of the World to come beingfolely and immediately in his power, who in all things was to have thepreeminence. And this will farther appear, ifwe confider the inflances before mentioned, wherein the fubjedionof this World to come unto anydoth conflit. Firft,Itwas not put infubjellion unta Angels in its Erection or lnftitution. That workwas' not committed unto them, as theApoftle declares in the entrance of this Epittle. They did not reveal the Will of God concerning it, nor were intrufted with Authority to eyed it. Some ofthem indeed were employed in meffages about its preparatory work; buttheywere not emplòyed, either to reveal the myfteries ofit wherewith they were unacquainted, nor authoritatively in the Name of God to ere it. For the WifdomofGod in the nature and myftery ofthis work they knew not, but by the effeds in the work it felf, Ephef. 3. 9, ro. which they looked andenguired into, to learn and admire, r Pet. I. 12. and therefore couldnot be intrufted with autho- rity for its Revelation, and the building of the Church thereon. But things were otherwife ofold. The Law, which was the foundation of the 3udaical-ChurchJlate, wasgiven by the Difofition ofAngels, Alts 1. 53. Gal. 3.19. And our Apoftle here calls it the Wordfpoken by Angels. They were therefore intrufted by God to give the Law and the Ordinances of it unto the people in his Name and Authority, which being the foundation of the Mofaical ChurchJtate, it was fti far put in fubjettion unto them.
