The ft'rfl of there is the conjlant dot-trine of the whole ancient church, namely,"tfiat whether (for inftance) in our folemn prayers and invocations, we call exprelly on the name of the Father, or of the Son, or ofthe Holy Spirit ; whether we do it abfolutely or relatively, that is, with refpeít unto the relation of one `perfon to the other ; as calling on God, as the Fatherof our Lord yefus Chr/ ; on Chr f as the Sonof his Love ; on the Holy Spi- rit, asproceeding from them both, we do-formally invocate and call on the divine nature, and cinfequently the whole Trinity, and eachperfon therein. This truth they principally confirmedwith the form of our initiation into atilt at Baptifin; I baptize thee in the Name of the Father, and of the Son, and of theHòly Ghoft. For as there is contained therein the fumm of rill divine honour, fo is it directed unto the fame Name, not the Names of the Father, Son and Spirit, which is the Arne Deity, or divine natura a- lone. Soplainly in my judgment there is one and the fame adoration of the Father, the Son incarnate, and the Holy Spirit.. Cyril. The fame glory inevery individual alt of its agnation or afcription, is directed unto each perfon joyntly anddinétly on the account of the fame divine nature in each of them. I need not produce any Teflimonies in the farther confirmation here_ of : For in all their writings againfi the Arians they exprefly and confïantly contend that the holy Trinity, that is, the divine nature in threeperfon, zs the individualobject of all divine adoration, invocation, and all religious worfhip ; and that by whatever perfonal name, as theFather, Son, or Spirit, we call on God, it is God abfolutely who isadored,and eachperfonparticipant of thefame nature. For the fecondthing, or the invocation of God by any perfonal name, or by the conjunction ofthe diftinct names ofthe Father, Son, andHoly Spirit together, nothing occurs more frequently among them.
