Of communion with Chriff in a conjugal relation in refpeel of confequen- tial aifeílions. His delight in his faints frrfi infafled on, Ifa.lxti. g. Cant. iii. 1. Prov. viii. 21. Enables them to communicate their mind to him, giving them affiance, a way, boldnefs, Rom. viii. 26, 27. The faints delight in Chrifi, this manifefled, Cant. ii. 7. chap. vii. 6. chap. iii. 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. opened. Their delight in his fervants and ordinances of worfhip for his fake. HE communion begun, as before declared, between Chrift and the foul, is in the next place carried on by fuitable confequential affe&ions ; affeftions fuiting fuch a relation. Chris having given himfelf to the foul, loves the foul; and the foul having given it felf unto Chriff, loveth him alfo. Chrift loves his own, yea he loves them to the end, Joh. xüi. 5, a. and the faints love Chris, they love the Lord Jefus CI rift in fincerity, Ephef.the la/l. Now the love of Chris wherewith he follows lais faints confifts in thefe four things, r. Delight. 2. Valuation. 3..Pity or compafiion. 4. Bounty. The love alfo of the faints unto Chris may be referred to thefe four heads ; T. Delight. 2. Valuation. 3. Chaftity. 4. Duty. Two of thefe, are of the fame kind ; and two diftinfr, as is required in this relation, wherein all things Sand not on equal terms. 1. The firs thing on the part of Chris is delight. Delight is the flow- ing of love and joy the (a) reft and complaifance of the mind, in a fuit- able deferable good enjoyed. Now Chris delights exceedingly in his faints ; As the bridegroom rejoiceth over the bride, fo'ball thy God rejoice over thee, Ifa. lxii. 5. hence he calleth the day of his efpoufals, the day of the gladnefs of his heart, Can. iii. 1 r. It is known that ufually this is the molt immixed delight, that the fons of men are in their pilgrimage made partakers of. The delight of the bridegroom in the day of his efpoufals is the height of what an expreflìon of delight can be carried un- to. This is in Chris anfwerable to the relation he takes us into.- His heart is g)ad in us, without forrow. And every day whilft we live is his wedding day. It is faid of him, Zeph. iii. 17. The Lordth God in the mid/t of thee (that is, dwelling amongft us taking our nature, fob. i. 14.) is mighty, be will fave, he will rejoice over thee with joy, he will refl in his tv"nav t. 41,45, ;};v, I t...,i,,,, .4s t.
