324 Of CoMMIINIoN with felt in our room, being allowed of by the righteous judge, fatisfaftion to him doth thence properly enfue. And this is the threefold confideration of the death of Chrift, as it is a principal fpring and fountain of that grace, wherein we have communion with him, for, as will appearin our procefs, the fingle and moll eminent part of purchafed grace, is nothing but the natural exurgencyof-the three- fold effefts of the death of Chrift, intimated to flow from it, on the ac- count of the threefold confideration infifted on. This then is the fecond rife of' purchafedgrace, which we are to eye, if we will hold communion with Chrift in it, his death and bloodfhedding, under this threefold notion, of a price, anoffering, and punifhment. But, (3.) This is not all; the Lord Chrift goes farther yet, he doth not leave us fo, but follows on_{he work to the utmoff, he died for our fins, and rofe again for our juflification (a); he rofe again to carry on the compleat work of purchafed grace; that is, by his interceffion; which is the third rife of it. In refpeft of this he is faid to be able to fave to the uttermolf them that come to God by him, feeing be liveth ever to make intercejonfor them, Heb. vii. 27. Now the interceflion of Chriff, in refpeft of its influence into purchafed grace, is confidered two ways. [r.] As a continuance and carrying on of his oblation, for .the snaking out of all the fruits and effects thereof untous. This is called his appear- ing in the prefence of Godfor us, Heb. ix. 24. that is, as the high prieft, having offered the great offering for expiation of fin, carried in the blood thereof into the molt holy place, where was the reprefentation of the pre- fence of God, fo to perfeft the attonement he had made for hind-elf and the people; fo the Lord Chrift having offered himfelf as a fweet-finelling facrifice to God, being fprinkled with his own blood, appears in the pre- tence of God, as it were to mind him of the engagement made to him, or the redemptionof finnersby his blood, and the making out the good things to them which were procured thereby; and to this appearance of his hath an influence into purchafed grace, inafmuch as thereby he puts in his claim for it, in our behalf. -- [2.1 He procureth the Holy Spirit for us, effeftually to collate and be- Row all this purchafed grace upon us, that he would do this, and doth it for us, we have his engagement, Yoh. xiv. 16. This isp, urchafed grace, in refpeft of its fountain and fpring; of which I fhallt!rot fpeak farther at prefent, feeing I muff handle it at large, in the matter of the c uni- on we have with the Holy Ghoft. .
