334 Of CoM M U N`LO'x `Z@IZZyJ Epbef. i. 5, 6, 7. The appointment of God is, that we {hall have the adoption of children. The means of it is by Jefus Chrift, the peculiar way ofbringing it about, is by the redemption that is in-lais blood, the end is the praife ofhis glorious grace. And thence it is [8.] That until the full time of their a &ual deliverance, determined and appointed to them in their feveral generations, be accotnplifhed, they are perfonally under the curie of the law, and on that account are legally ob- nDxious to the wrath of God, from which they shall certainly be delivered. I fay, they are thus perfonally obnoxious to the law and the curfe thereof, hut not at all with its primitive intention of execution upon them,`tbat as it is a means appointed to help forward their acquaintance with Chrift,. and acceptance with God, on his account ; when this is accomplifhed;'.that whole obligation:ceafes,' being continued on them in a defign of loves; their lift condition being fuch, as that they cannot without it, be brought to a participation of Chrift, to the praife of the glorious grace of God. [9.] The end of the difpenfation of grace, being to glorify the whole trinity, the order fixed on, and appointed, wherein this is to be done, is, by afcending to the father's love, through the works oftheSpirit, and blood of the fon. The emanation ofdivine love to us, begins with the father, is carried on by the fon, and then communicated by the Spirit, the father de- figning, the fon purchafhng, the Spirit effe&uaily.working, which is their order. Our participation, is firft by thework of the Spirit, to an actual intereft in the blood of the fon, whence we have acceptationwith thefather. This then is the order, wherebywe are brought to acceptation with the father, for the glory of God through Chrift. . a.) That the Spirit may be glorified, he is given unto us, to quicken us, convert us, work faith in us, Rem. viii. 1 s. Epbef. i. 19, so. according to allthepromifes ofthe covenant,/fa. iv. ¢,q. Ezek. xix. t r. chap. xxxvi. 26. 2.) This beingwrought in us, for the glory of the fon, we are aetually interefted according to the tenour of the covenant, at the faine inftant of time, in the blood of Chrift, as to the benefits which he hath procured for us thereby. Yea this very work of the Spirit itfelf, is a fruit, and part of the purchafe of Chrift, but we fpeak of our fenfe of this thing, whereunto thecommunication ofthe Spirit is antecedent. And 3.) To the glory of the father, wo are accepted with him, juftified, freed from guilt, pardoned, and have peace withGod, Rom. v. I. 'Dins through Chrift we bave ace fs by one Spirit unto the father, 2 Ephef. ii. 18. And thus are both father and fon, and the Holy Spirit, glorified in our ¡Milli- cation, and acceptation with God, the father inhis free love, the fon in lais full purchafe, and the Holy Spirit in his effefual working. [to.] All this, in all the parts of it, is no lets fully procured for us, nor lefs freely bellowed on us, for Chrift's fake and on his account, as part of his purchafe and merits ; than if all of us immediately upon his death, had been tranflated into heaven ; only this way of our deliverance and free- dom is fixed on, that the whole trinity may be glorified thereby. And this may fufftce inanfwer to the firft obje&ion. Though our recon- ciliation with God be fully and compleatly procured by the, death of Chrift, and all the ways and means whereby it is accomplifhed, yet we are brought unto an aCual enjoyment thereof, by theway and in the order mentioned, . for the praife of the glorious grace of God. 2. The fecond obje&ion is, that if the righteoufnefs and obedience of Chrift to the law, be imputed unto us, then what need we yield obedience our felves ?. To
