Therefore he tells them, that he will not pray the father for his love unto them, becaufe the eternal love of the father, is not the frttit, but the fountain of his purchafe, but the Spirit that is a fruit, that,_ faid he, I will pray the father for, der. And what Chrift asketh the: father as mediator, to bellow on us, that is art of his purchafe (a), being promifed unto him,upon his undertaking to do the will of God. And this is the fitti thing that is to he conlidered in the Lord Jefus, as to the communication of the Spirit of fanttitìcation and purification ; the;firft thing to be conittdercd in this our communion with him. He intercedes with his father, that, he may be bellowed on us, as a fruit of his death and bloodfhed-in our behalf. "Phis is the relation of the Spirit of holinefs, as bellowed on us, unto the mediation of Chrift. He is the great (b) foundation of the covenant of grace ; being himfelf. everlaflingly defiinated, and freely given to make a purchafe of all the good things thereof.
