Thus tomes our merciful high prieft'to be the great poffeffor of all grace, that he may give our to ass according to hit own pleafure; quickning whom he will. He hath it in him really as our head, in that he received not that fpirit by meafure, fob. iii. 34. which is the bond of union between ` him, and us, 1 Cor. vi. 17. whereby holding him the head, we are filled with his fulnefs, Eph f i. 22, 23. Col. ii. 19. he hath it as a common perfon intrufted with it on our behalf, Rom. v. 14 15, 16,- 17. The left Adam is made unto- us a quickning fpirit, 1 Cor. xv. 45. He is alfo a treafury of this grace in a moral and law fenfe; not only as it pleafed the father, that all funefs fbeuid dwell in him, Col. i. rg. but alfa becaufe in his mediation, as bath been declared, is founded the whole difpenfation of grace. [2. Being thus aftually veiled with this power, privilege, and ful- nefs, Ile deigns the Spirit to take of this fulnefs, and to give 'it un- to us. 'He Jhall, take of mine and flier, it unto you, Joh. xvi. 15. The Spirit takes of that fulnefs that is in Chrift, and in the naine of the Lord Jefus, beftows it aftually on them, for whofe fanftification he is feat. Concerning the manner and almighty efficacy of the Spirit of grace, whereby this is done (I mean, this actual collation of grace up- on his peculiar ones) more will he fpoken afterwards. [3. For actual ' grace, or that influence of power, whereby the Saints are enabled to perform particular duties according to the mind of God, there is not any need of further enlargement about it. What= con- cerns our communion with the Lord Clnift therein, holds proportion with what was fpoken before. There remaineth only one thing more to be ohferved concerning thofe things, whereof mention Isatls been "made, and I proceed to the way whereby we carry on communion with the Lord Jefus in all there. And that is, that there things may be confidered two ways. ] In refpeiì' of their firft collation or bellowing on the foul. 2.1 In refpec& of their continuance and increafe, as unto the degrees of them. They are but as the dead bones in the prophet, the wind blows on theta, and they live, as Lazarus in the grave; Chrift calls and they come forth ; the call being accompanied with life, and power. This then is not that whereof particularly I fpeak. But it is the fecond in refpe& of further efficacy of the Spirit, and increafe of grace, both habitual and aftual, whereby we become more holy, and to be more powerful in walking with God, have more fruit in obedience, and fuccefs againft temptations, And in this, 2.
