Ver.4. his Prefription ofRepentance. 14 5 creature to humble it felt and bewail its tin, if there were no way of recovery, or relief. And the only way of recovery from the guilt of tin,' is pardon, fo Job 3 3.27, 28. He looketh on men, and if any fay, I have finned, andperverted that which was right, and it profited pare not ; he will deliver his foul from going into thepit, and his life /hail fie the light. In the foregoin Verfis he declares the various wayes that God did to bring menuntoRepentance. He did it by dreams, ver. 15, 16. by Af- flit` ions, ver. I 9. by thepreaching of the Word, ver. 23. What then doth God aim at in and by all thefe various wayes of teachings ? It is to caufe man to fay, I havefinned, andpervert- ed that which was right. It is to bring him to Repentance : What now, if he obtaine his end, and man cometh to that which is aimed at ? Why then time is forgivenefl for him, as is ,declared, ver.28. To improve this evidence, I (Fall confirm-by fome f_w obvious confederations thefe two things. i. That the prefiription of Repentance doth indeed evince that there is forgivenefi with God. 2. That every one in whom there it Repentance wrought to- wards `God, may certainly conclude that there is forgivenefl with God for him. z. Confider one intlance for all : It is Paid of 7udac that he repented, Mat.27 3. c letets ,n9Hs, he repentedhimfelf ; but wherein d,d this repen- tance confil{ ? he was convinced of his fin in general; iimapror, faith he, I havefinned, ver. 4. 2.
