Return your Anfwer to him in whole Name, and bywhofc Appointment thefe words are fpoken unto you. If you (hall fay, we are convinced that this way of forgiveneß is the only way for the relief and deli- verance of our Souls; Then, 6. Abhorr your le' Ives for allyour blindnoß and obffinacy where- by you have hitherto defpifed the love of Gid, the blood of Chriti, and the Tenders of Pardon in the Gofpel. Be abatid and humbled to the duff, in a fcnfe of your vilenefs, Polluti- ons, and Abominations ; which things are every day fpoken unto, and need not here be repeated. And, 7. Labour to exercife your hearts greatly with thoughts of tbat abundant Grace that is manifefled in this way offinners corne- ing unto God ; as alfo of the Excellency of the Gofpel wherein it is unfolded. Confider the Eternal Love of the Father, which is the Fountain and Spring of this whole difpenfation , the inexpreflible Love of the Son, in etiablifhing and confirming it, in removing all hindrances and ob(1rudions by his own blood, bringing forth unto beauty and Glory this Redemption or Forgivcnefs of fin, as the price of it. And let the Glory ofthe Gofpel which alone makes this difcovery of Forgivenefi' in God, dwell in your hearts. Let your minds be exercifed about thefe things. You will find effeas from them, above all that hath as yet been brought forth in your fouls. What for the molt part have you hitherto been converfant about ? when you have rifen above the turmoyling of lufls and corruptions in your hearts, the entanglements of your Callings, bufinefs, and affairs, what have you been able to raife your hearts unto ? perplexing fears about your Condition, Genera! hopes without favour or relieh, yielding you no refrefhment, Legal Commands, Bondage-duties, di(ï'raEled Confciences, broken Purpofis and Pro- miles which you have been toffed up and down withal!, with- out any certain ref}. And what EffeCis have thefe thoughts produced ? have they made you more holy, and more bumble ? have they given you delight in God, and firength unto new obedience ?
