It gives delight in obedience, and draws out Love in the l of duties that unto God we do perform. So much Aífurance of a furance in Comfortable Wile oftheir Obedience, ofa End of their Believers labours and duties, oftheir purifying their hearts, and preffing after univerfal Renovation of mind and life, as may make them Chearfuft in them, as may give Love and Delight in the purfuit ofwftat they are engaged in, is needful! for the Saints, and they g-do not often go without it; and where this is, there is Gofpel Affurance. To run as men uncertain, to tight as thofe that beat the Air, to travel as not any way perfwaded of a comfortable entertainment or refrefhment at the Journeys End, is a flare and condition that God doth not frequently leave his people unto. And when hedoth, it is a feafon wherein he receives very little of Glory from them, and they very little increafe of grace in themfelves. Many things, as hath been fhewed,do interpofe,tnany doubts arife and inrangling perplexi- ties, but hill there is a Comfortable perfwafon kept alive, that there is a Refl. provided, which makes them willing unto, and chearfull in their molt difficult duties. This prevailethin them, that their labour in the Lord, their watchings, praying, futfer- ing, alms, mortification, fighting againft temptation, crucify- ing the flefh with the tufts thereof, fhall not be in vain. This gives them fuch a delight in their molt difficult duties, as men have°in a hard journey towards a deferable home, or a place of Reft> 2. It caffs out fear, tormentingfear, fuch as fills the foul with perplexing uncertainties, bard thoughts of God, and dreadful apprehenfions of wrath to come : There are three things fpoken concerning that fear which is inconfiftent-with the Apr forgivenefs.
