Oh how much unfelt, unbewailed blindnefs, hardnefs, enmity, unbelief; earthinefs is there in them ! All which fetch never a groan from them. It is fomewhat firange that believing Abraham, when God made him fo fair a promife of an Ifaac, thould yet let out his thoughts fo much upon I_/hmael, Oh that Ifhmael might live before thee ! But it is very natural for unregenerate men., even when the Promife of a new heart lies fair before them in the Scripture, to acqui- efee in the old frame, as much of Nell and Death as they carry about with them. All's well and in peace; but when Faith comes,Ori- ginal Sin is felt to the quick; God Chines from Sinai, the Law is up in the heart in its pure Spirituality, and all the foul corners there, which before lay in the dark, difcover them- 'Rives in their ugly hue ; the Spirit of Life en- ters into the Man,and the Wounds and Ulcers, which, whilefl he was Spiritually dead, broke not his reff, breath out anguifh in every part, and make him cry out, 7amcilreous tiyw s vsPw° ;r®-, 01, wretched man that I am!
