The Spirit came upon Samfon, and he flew heaps upon heaps of the Philiftines. So under the New,when Faith fubdues the inward Kingdom of Sin, it is by the Spirit firengthening the Believer to over- come it ; the reign of Sin is broken, becaufe he is under Grace. Here we fee how old lróng cuflomary Sins, filch as are a fecond nature in Men, come to be fubdued; it would be an hard, nay almofi impoffible thing for a Mora- lift to unravel fuch a Sin, meerly by contrary ads, and thofe as done by his own power, and that power emafculated by a long tra& of Sin : But Faith draws down an Almighty Power and Spirit to the work ; that hyperbole of Power which railed up Chriff from the dead,is towards the Believer, Ephef r. i p. That Spi- rit of life which is in Chriff, makes him free from the law of fin and death, Rom.8.2, The bands of Sin can no more hold him than thofe of Death could Chrifi-, when the glory of the Fa- ther came to raife him up. In doing this great work Faith goes by thefe fieps ; firft, Faith lays down this as a foundation, That there is Power enough in God to fubdue Sin, or elfe` he fhould not be an Infinite God and that Sin is capable of being fubdued, or elfe it would be an Infinite Monfler.
