Pgecfouo Jaítb . 297 ficut oportet, as an ancient Council fpeaks, or indeed in Scripture fenfe any love at all;becaufe it loves not God above all, it mull needs be inordinate , there being the fame ataxy in loving God below the Creature, as in loving the Creature above God ; But that there is a kind of Love, fuch as that dark light can raife up in fain man. But when the light of Faith comes, it raifes up the Grace of Love towards God, and ever after moves it into at by the pure difcoveries of him, which it lets into the Heart from Scripture. He is (faith Faith) an immenfe infinite Goodnefs; Crea- tures are but drops of Being lying in the (hell of Time, but he is the Ocean of all Perfecîi- ons. They may be good for this or that in particular according to their finite kinds and fpheres ; but he is rd /rávra, the All - things, as the Apoflle calls him, i Cor. 15. 28. And withal he is Love it felf,as another Apoflle hath it, z Joh. 4.16. Not (hutting up his Allnefs in unapproachable Glory, but letting it out to Believers. His Love, though he ever had per- k& Bleffednefs in himfelf, would yet pour out it fell in ,making a world of good Crea- tures ; and after Mans fall in giving his only Son to take hold of our nature, and in it to bring us back again to himfelf, that he might be our God, and make over his Allnefs to us; and all this in pure Grace, without any Money or Merit on our part, and in rich Mercy to- wards worms and forlorn Sinners ; and to al- lure it to us, a Gofpel is let down from Hea- ven
