He changes the number, as the Judicious Interpreter obferves, That every one in particu- lar may defcend into hintfelf, and there find an Argument for Meeknefs towards others. More- over Faith promotes this Grace by viewing the Promifes made thereunto, which are as large as heart can with : would we have the things of the World ? The meekfhall inherit the earth ; and to fweeten it., They fhall delight themfelves in the abundance of peace,Pfal.37. i I. would we have the things of God ? The meek fhall be beautified with falvation, Pfal. 149. 4. And all the good tidings in the Gofpel are to be preached to them, Ifa. 6r. i. For the true Way, They have Gad to teach them, and guide them in judgment, Pfa1.2 5.9. And for a pure Comfort, They Jhall have joy in the Lord, and be every day increafing it, Ifa. 29.19. Their meek and quiet fpirit makes them beautiful in the eyes of God and Min ; fo rich a jewel proves them to be the eleeJ of God,. Col. 3. 12.
