If a Conclu- fion drawn from two Propofitions, one (land- ing on the Word, and another on other Evi- dence, be not de Fide, What will the Roma - nif& do for their darling the Popes Supremacy? To prove that fuch or filch a Pope, fuppofe Gregory or Innocent were Supream in the Church, They muff argue thus : Whoever is Peters Succefr is Supream in the Church ; But Gregory or Innocent were Peters Succeffirs : Ergo, They were Supream in the Church. In which Argument, though they would fain fet up the Major upon Scripture, yet the Minor Rands only on Elec ion. No Scripture faith, That Peters Succer muff be a Gregory or an Innocent; neverthelefs they would have the Conclufion de fide. But if a Conclufion drawn from filch Propofitions be de fide, then may the Believer, according to the prac`fical Syllogifm abovementioned, conclude in Faith, That his fins are pardoned, though no Word tell him, That he bath true Faith and Repen- tance. It fuffices, that Experience tells him fo. But as a further anfwer : Neither is the Word altogether wanting herein ; for.if lets out Faith and Repentance by infallible marks and 393
