I have read of one, who apofiatized from his profeilion, and on his Fick -bed began to apply the Pro- miles to himfelf ; but alas ! after a little feeming cafe, he cried out in defpair, That the Plait er would not flick: God only can make it do fo ; and he makes it do fo only to penitent Believers ; and they may con- clude the Truth of their Graces, when the Gofpel and its Promifes come to them in the Holy Gho(I and in much Affurance, as the Expreflton is, i rhefJ'al. i. 5. Again,as another part of he Seal,The Holy Spi- rit irradiates the Graces in the Heart: The farne Spirit which formed them there at firfi, comes and owns them as its own off-fpring, bring- ing in fuch a Divine light, and making fuch an efficacious reprefentation thereof; that the Believers Confcience may, as the Apofile fpeak- eth in another cafe, Rom. g. t , Bear witn.fÿ in the Holy Gboff and fay This is found Repentance indeed, and that is Love undiifem- bled, and the other is Faith unfeigned ; and fo of other Graces in the new Creature. Thefe Graces carry in themfelves a kird of heavenly light rendring than vilible : But when the Spirit comes, it puts fuch a glofs and oriency on them, that the Believer may know them to be freely given to him of Col, that this and that Grace are fo given, and filch and fuch are the fare marks of the truth thereof: Such a Teftimony as this, made learned Rivet at his dying hour break forth into thefe words,
