Werke. 2. ;Parke, The Saints Spiritual) f1rength. to fan5ìi ie, is this, that he fubfiff in fanâification, that is, that hee depend not upon another for lan- &ification,but that he be able to fan&fie himfelfe: now this is the excellency of the holy Ghoft, He is landification and holineffe it Celle, that is fub. firing in ftntificationand abounding in holineffe, and therefore able to flrcngrhen the inward man. But that you may more fully underfland this point, I will (how you how the Spirit flrengthens the inward man,and workes holineffe and fanQifi- cation, and this will appeare in loure things. The fiat way how the fpirit flrcngthens grace in the foule,is this, by giving unto the foule, an cf- feduall operative and powerfull faculrie, and that is done by rearing the inward man in the foule, and letting up the building of grace, and this, He doth by fhedding abroad in the heart the bleffed effeas of grace unto every facultie : as the blood is infufed into every veine, or as the foule goes through every parc of the body , and fo gives life unto it fo doth the Spirit goe through all the parts of the foule, by infufing 1piriruall life and power into them, and therefore the Apoftle calles it, Eph.i. his eíf.c`luall power,that is, he hath luth efficacy in working, that he infufeth fpiritaall life unto thewhole foule. The fecond way how the Spirit flrengrhens grace is this,when he bath fet up the buildings, & fwcpt every corner of the foule, then he inables the foule to doe more then ir could doe by nature, by putting new habits and qualities in the foule : as
