Vid.Grotii dc- fenffidei Catbol. defatisfallione Chriffi,cap 3 TheImmutability For refolving hereof, wee muff note that in point of validity or invalidity, there canbut five things be laid of the Law: for fira, either it mull be obeyed, and that it is notfor all havefinnedandcome (bort of the Gloryofead, Rom. 3 2 3.0r fecondly, it muff be execated uponmelt, and the curie or penaltie thereofinflieted ; and that it is not neither, for there is nocondemnation to them that are in Chri ft,Rom. S.T. Or thirdly, it muff be abrogated, or extinguifbed ; and that it is not neither, for Heaven and Earth mull fooner paffe away. Ifthere were no Law, there wouldbe no finne, for finne is the tranfgreffion of the Law ; and ifthere were no Law, there would be no judgement; for the world mull be judged by the Law. Or fourthly, it mull be moderated and favourably inter- pretedby rules ofequity, to abate the rigor and feverity thereof; and that cannot bee neither, for it is inflexible, no jot nor tittle of it mull beabated. Or laflly, the Law it felfe remaining, the Obligation thereofnotwithfian- ding, mua towards fuch or fuch perfonsbe fo farre forth diffienfed withall, as that a furety fhall beadmitted (up on a concurrenceof all their wills who are therein inte- reaed; God willing to allow,Chrift willing to performe, and Man willing to enjoy :) both to doe all the duties, and to Puffer all the curies of the Law, in the behalfe of that Perron, who in rigour fhould himfelfe have done and fuffered all. So then neither the Lawnor any jot or tittle thereof is abrogated, in regard ache Obligations therein contained, but they arc all reconciled in Chria with the fecondcovenant.
