Hee fulfilled all the Obligations of the Law; the duties thereof by active obedience in his life, and the curies thereof by paffiveobedience in his death. Now then we by faith becomming one with Chrill, the grace ofGod dothnumber us up in the fame maffeand fumme with him, and In imputeth and accounteth that ours which was done by him. There is no righteoufheffe but doth originally referre and Beare proportion to the Law of God, and yet wee are not juflifiedby the Law, but by Grace; becaufe it is the favour ofGod, contrary to the rigour and exaaion of the Law, which allovveth the righteoufneffe ofthe Law by omfoifilled,to be unto ano- theraccounted. A man is denominated righteous, as a wall may bee efleemed red or greene. Now that comes to paffe twomanner ofwayes, eitherby the colour inhe- ring and belonging unto the wall it felfe, or by the fame colour in foine diaphanous tranfparent body ; as glaffe, which by the beame ofthe Sunne alining on the wall, dothexternallyaffea the fameas if it were its owne,and covers that true inherent colour which it bath ofit felfe. In like manner by the firiel covenant of the Law vc ce ought to be righteous from a righteoufneffe inherent in, and performed by our felves ; but in the new covenant ofgrace weare righteous by the righteoulnesof Chria, which fhineth upon us, and prefenteth us in hiscolour unto the fight ofhis Father. Here in both covenants the righteoufneffe from whence the denomination groweth is the fame (namely the fatisfying ofthedemands of the whole Law) but themanner of our right and propriety thereunto is much varied.
