And this is the ground of all the Churches comfort that more is with them than again(} them : the enemies have combinations and confederacies of men, but the Church bath Immanuel, Godwith them, Efai. 8. 9,1o. none can pull Chrifl from the right handof God, or from the right handofhis people : that is, nonecan take awayeither his power or his love from his people. The Church and truth can never bee crufh'd and over- throwne, no more than arocke with the raging of the waves : they are Heavenly things , and therefore no- thing ofearth or hell can reach to corrupt them. It was but a vaine attempt of the Gyants to build a tower to heaven : The worldmar made that there might be there- in a Church to worfhip and contemplate that God whichmade it ; therefore in the creationGod never re- tied till he came to a Church, tonote that that was the end thereof; and therefore it iseafier to pull downe the world ,and to (hake in peeces the frame ofnature, than to ruine the Church. The Church bath Chrift for her husband, hee to whom all knees mut/ bend, hee whom every tongue ma confeffe, hee who will fubdue all things to himfelfe, fo (he hath Love, Power andhalm- fie, all three very firong thingson her fide. And there- fore the onely way tobe fafe, is to keeps Chrifi at our right hand, to hold fall his truth, worfhip, and obedi- ence; for lo longas we have Immanuel,all adverfepow- er is but flefh, and all flefh is but graffe, withered in a moment when God will blowupon it.
