We may further obferve, that Each of the three Perfons is frequently addreffed under the plural Name ALEHIM, becaufe as Each of them is JEHOVAH in a perfonal Trinity which is °economically diftin;uifhed, fo each of them is the ALEHIM in an effential Unity, which cannot be divided. Hence, whatever is prxdi- cable of the Nature of the Father, is equally prxdi- cable of the Nature of the other two Perfons. The plural Denomination is applied to Each, without any grammatical Solxcifm, becaufe Each neceffarily coëxßs in a Plurality. If the Father be addreffed, the Son and Spirit are addreffed with Him If the Son be mentioned, refpecting his Godhead, the Father and Spirit are im- plied : And if the Holy Ghojt be treated of, the Father and Son are to be confidered as infeparable from Him. Confequently, when the Father is denominated the Alehim, he is really fo in a Union of Nature with the other two Perfons, who are thereby underftood : And the Cafe is the fame in the Mention of the Son and Spi- rit. For inftance, the Father is called fllehim, who anointed the Son, in the Affümption of Man's Nature, to his mediatorial Office. Compare Pfalm xlv. 7. with Heb. i. g. The Son is ftyled Alehim Elion, or the Ale- him mol High, Pfalm lxxviii. 56, compared with I Cor. x. 9. The Spirit is named Alehim and Jéhovah in 2 Sam. xxiii. 2, 3. Thus (in anfwer to the Objection of a learned Man,* who inquires, " How can the Holy Ghoft be faid to be the Spirit of the three Perfons, when he himfelf is one of thofe Perfons ? ") the Holy Ghoft is the Spirit, or the Perfon fo called, of the divine Ef- fence Jehovah Alehim, becaufe he is a Perfon in that Effence..
