C-OUNSELLOR. 169 Chrift is alfo the Counfeller ofhis People. Nicodemus Aid truly of him, Thou art ft Teacher' come from GOD; though that Matter in Ili-ad could neither underhand, nor receive, his..Counfels. Nicodemus had not learnt the firft Leffon of Grace ; namely, to know his own Ig- norance.; and therefore he cavilled at the humbling Pre- cepts of the great Inftruaor. But the M4ek (as the Pfahnift frogs) will he guide in Judgement, and the Meek will he teach his Way.# A high- minded Sinner over- looks the lowly Jefus. Thehismble in Heart, thofe who have been made fenfible of their own Ignorance and Folly, are alone willing (like Mary) tofat meekly at his Feet, and receive his Word. Thefe he guideth conti- nually ;-J- thefe he maketh to lie down in green Paftures, and leadeth bejide theAll Waters. $ They 'ball not hunger laor thirft (fays theProphet), neither 'hall the Heat nor Sun(mite them; for He, that hath Mercy on them, 'hall lead them, even by the Springs of Water Jhall he guide them.§ He is their Advocate with the Father, as well as the Propitiation for their Sins ; and hath left this com- fortable Affurance to his People of all Generations, Lo, I amwithyou alway, even unta the End of the World.11 This condefcending Character of our gracious LORD forms another inconteftableArgument of his glorious Divinity. For, how could Chrift counfel an almoft în- finite Number of People, in all Ages, in all Places, in every Infant, and at the fame Inftant; unlefs he were both omniprefent and omnifcient? And furely, any one may conceive, that a gracious Being, thus prefent to help, thus able to advife, thus willing to uphold, from one End of the World to the other, in all Ages, and at all Times ; m¡uft neceffarily be omniprefent and om- nifcient. ,Christ himfelf being true, it cannot be other- wife. If then the Lord Chrift poffefs thefe divine At- tributes, he muff be equal to JEHOVAH and a Perfon in JEHOVAH; lince none but the true and very GOD, ac- P.falm xxv. g. § Ífaiah.x1ix."
