PRINCE OF PEACE. z 9x By various Prophets, who lived in different Ages, he was ftyled ; not merely Man, though his Vifage was marredmore than any Man, andhis Form more than the Sons of Men ;u but a Prince, a Captain,1 and the LORD of Hofis. Ifaiah fpeaks of him as the Prince ofPeace ; Ezekiel, calls him David (or the Beloved) the Prince,t and Prince of GOD's People for ever ;§ Daniel terms him Melliab (or Chrift) the Prince ;II and Zechariah denomi- nates him the King of Zion, and Yerufakm, who fhould fpeak. Peace to the Heathen, and whole Dominion should be from Sea to Sea, and from the River to the Ends of the Earth.q Being eternal and infinite in his own Perfon what- ever (if we may fo fpeak) is the Foundation of his Empire and the Bafis of his Throne, muff alío be in- finite and eternal. In other Words, his Perfections and Attributes are infeparable from and coival with himfelf. Confequently then, the Peace, of which he is the Prince, is an infinite and perpetual Peace. Upon this Account, the Prophet declares, that of the Increafe of his Govern- ment and Peace there Jhall be no End.** And, in this View, the Pfalmiff rejoices, that in his Days the Righte- ousfhallflourifh, and Abundance cf Peace fo long as the Moon endureth ;Mt or, as it might have been rendered, when there is no Moon, i. e. eternally ; becaufe (as he adds foon afterwards) his Name Jhall endure for ever. CHRIST is the everlaJling King tt of everlafling Love and Peace.§ § His Mercies are everlafting, becaufe HE is everlafting.
