He is precious to them in his Names; be- caufe they wholly difplay his Nature and his Work. They are fo many beautiful Notices of himfelf; and bold forth ten thoufand Mercies and Blefings to their Souls. If Adam could give juft Denominations to the Subftances about him ; furely the GOD of Adam can reveal a perfect Defcription of his own Nature by his own Names. HisWord likewife is precious to his Peo- ple's Experience. It declares not only GOD's Exiftence in himfelf, but their covenanted Relation to GOD. Thus the Word of the Scriptures in Chrrfi is all Tea and Amen; all Affirmation of Grace to his People, and all Eaithfulnefs and -Truth to biefs them for ever. 'Tis a comfortable Thought to them, That He, who fpake, and by whom all things were made ; is the very fame almighty Perfon; who came and wrought all things to redeem. Confequently, nothing can arife, fuperior to his Power, unknown to his Purpofes, or contrary to his Defign. What a reviving Confolation is here ? JEno- vAH, who fainteth not, was and is in the lowly. JEsus, mighty to fave. His Salvation is not only the kindeft and molt benevolent Office, that his Nature could reveal to Man ; but alto the moft indefeétibly ftrong, and the moft abfolutely certain. Not a Tittle of it is left to Chance or Accident, or (what is juft the fame) to the Will and Caprice of the Creatures. Neither Men nor Devils can refift the Purpofe of Him, who ehangeth not. If it were pof'ible, that all the Angels in Heaven, who are great in Might, should fet them- felves in Array to obftruft the Salvation of the weakeft Believer in JEsus ; their Efforts would be as impotent and ridiculous, as a Combination of fome puny Ani- malcules upon a Leaf, to overturn the World. The Honor, the Engagements, and the Divinity of the GOD-man are engaged in this Event, and cannot be overthrown, till He is overthrown. FAITHFUL and RUE are as precious Charaelers of this WORD of GOD,
