As a Spirit, GOD is without " Body, Parts, or Pafllons ;" but he employs this Lan- guage in Condefcenfion to our feeble Capacities. It hath been juftly obferved, Loquitur Deus ad Modum no- firm, agit ad Modum fuum ; GOD fpeaks in our way, but alts according to his own. By his ARM, then, we . are to underftand, the Extent of his Power; as his ftretched out Arm, or infinite Might, reaches to all Things : By his HAND ; the molt minute, exact and perfect Workings of that Power, which defcends to the Arrangement of the leaft of his Difpenfations equally with the greateft: And by his RIGHT HAND; the brighteft Difplay of his Omnipotence and Majefty. If the Finger of GOD, or the leaft Exertion of his Strength, could create the Heavens ;1-. who can prefcribe Bounds to the Reach of his Arm, or what is impofïìble to the Strength of his divine Right Hand? But thefe Terms do not barely imply the Omnipotence of JEHOVAH : They frequently fignify 7ehovah himfelf. Whatever can be confidered as an Attribute in GOD; that GOD is. Thus Power in GOD is his own Ef fence; The Creatures may have Power, but it is all derived fromHim ; and therefore Power in them may be con- fidered as feparate from their Being : But GOD and his Power, however we may diftinguifh Caufe and Effeét, cannot be divided. He is a pure Aft in himfeif ; and his Will, Wifdom, Power, and Effence; are all one and the fame. We ufe the Word Almighty by itfelf, though an Adjeétive, to denominate his Effence, and with great Propriety ; becaufe no Subftantive, but what ftands for the Effence, can bejoined with it.
