272 ARM, HAND, AND receive the Knowledge ofJehovah. He is alto the Wif- dom of Jehovah ; becaufe by him Jehovah hath fhewn bis Wifdom in the Fabric and Defignation of the vifible World: And, being Jehovah the Wifdom in his divine Effence, he is called, in the Abftra6t, Wifdom itfelf. He is likewife the Power of Jehovah; becaufe by him Jehovah, in the Creation of the World and at all Times fince, hath !hewed his Power to Men, and becaufe all Power is his both in Heaven andEarth. He is, there- fore, called by the Apoftle, not only the Wifdom 'of GOD, but the Power of GOD, with a peculiar Mani- feftation to them that believe.t And if Chrift be the Power of GOD, he hath a Right to the Emblems of that Power, and is juftly ftyled the .firm, Hand, and Right Hand, of JEHOVAH. THAT Chrift is thus pofitively ftyled, and, being thus ftyled, is Jehovah himfelf, refpefting his fuperior Na- ture; will appear from the Confideration of a few Paf fages in Scripture. Thou fhalt well remember (lays Mofes to Ifrael) the mighty HAND and the firetched out ARM, whereby JEHO- VAH thy ALEHIM brought thee out of Egypt. $ But Chrift, the Angel which appeared to Mofes in the Bufh, is fail, in the New Teftament, to have brought Ifrael out of the Land of Egypt. § Chrift is, therefore,,.the HAND and ARM, which Jehovah thus employed. Who hath believed our Report (fays the Prophet) ; and to whom is the ARM of the LORD revealed? 11 This Word ARM, with the whole Context, is expreily ap- plied to Chrill, by the Evangelift in his Gofpel. ¶ Thou haft with thine ARM (fays the Pfalmift to Jeho- vah) redeemed thy People. ** But the Apoftle declares of Chrift, that there is no Salvation [or Redemption] in anyother; for there is noneother Name under Heaven, given amongMen whereby we muff befaved. tt CHRIST, there- fore, was the redeemingARM. * Prov. viii. i. i Cor. i. z¢. 5 Ads vii. 36, 38.
