The World allures or annoys ; but he gets a Victory, a daily Vic- tory, over its Frowns and its Snares, through Faith in his Redeemer. The Flefh hath its Suggeftions ; but the Thoughts of his Heart are brought into the fweet Captivity and Rule of jefus. The Devil, like the ftrong Man armed, would fain recover his Goods ; but Cbrill, who is ftronger than the strong, binds up his Arms, and bids the captive Soul be free. In fhort, the Chriftian, being beat out (and much beating out he requires too) of his own Strength and Righteoufnefs, gives himfelf up to the Condu .t, Will, Strength, and Righteoufnefs of his Redeemer. This is the Effect of that genuine Humility, which the right Convi Lion of Sin hath planted in his Heart. When this Humility acts moft, then he is fafeft ; becaufe the humbler he is, the more he leans upon the Strength of his Saviour ; and, when he leans moft upon the Strength which is almighty, he can do molt. He hath molt Life in Ordinances, in Communion, in Duty, in every thing. If one were to draw the Pourtraiture of á Chrif- tian, this probably would come near to his Defcription. He is one, who, in Dotirine, believes that the three Perfons in JEHOVAH áre equally engaged in the Ae- complifhment of his Salvation ; that the Love of Father, Son, and Spirit, is but one Love, directed to the three Objets of their refpeftive Offices in him ; namely, Creation, Redemption, and Regeneration, completed in his eternal Glorification ; that he was chofen freely to this Mercy, when it was loft by titian) to his Nature; that he is juftified, only, and entirely, and at once, by the Obedience of yehavab, in human Flefh, to that perfe& Law, which Man was created to obey but had broken ; that he is fanftified in Jefus Chrift through the Spirit ; and by him (hall everlaftingly be faved.
