ANGEL, and ANGEL of theCOVENANT. 283 The ANGEL, who REDEEMED mefrom all Evil, BLESS the Lads, &c. Paid the Patriarch Jacob, upon the Sight of Jofeph's Children. Gen. xlviii. 16. The REDEEMER. iS here exprefsly called the ANGEL ; and Invocation is made for his Biding. Now, there is but one Redeemer, and one Objets ofWoríhip ; and this Object of Worfhip, and this Redeemer, is named JEHO- VAH SABAOTH, Or LORD OF HOSTS, in feveral Parts of the Bible. Confequently, as Jacob was no Idolater, the ANGEL, whom he invoked for a Blef ling, and who redeemed him from all Evil, was JEHOVAH himfelf, the true and only GOD. This bleffed ANGELwent before the Church in the Wildernefs, and conduced them, by a thoufand Mi- racles and with wonderful Safety, to the Lot of their Inheritance in Canaan. Exod. xxiii. 23. Mofes told the Children of Ifrael, that this ANGEL (promifed Exod. xxxiii. 2.) WaS JEHOVAH their ALEHIM. Deut. Vii. 22. And JEHOVAH himfelf, by Jofhua, declares that he, iri virtue of his Promife, had driven out their Enemies before them. From hence alto it follows, that this ANÇEL Of Promife was JEHOVAH. This glorious ANGEL appeared alto to Manoah, who knew not that he was gm miry, `1tstzm The ANGEL JEHo- VAH HIMSELF, till he did wondroufly in the Sacrifice, and afcended in the Flame from the Altar. Then JI/Ianoah (it is Paid) knew him, and acknowledged him to be the ALEHIM. * Gideon knew his Redeemer as the ANGEL JEHOVAH, who bleffed him with the Bleßiing of Peace ; for which in Thankfulnefs he reared anAltar, and called upon him under the Name of ADONAI JEHOVAH. Ifaiah, like- wife, fpeaking of JEHOVAH'S Goodnefs to Ifrael, fays of him, that HE was their Saviour ; that in all their 4fiitfion, he was aflitted, and the ANGEL of his Pretence faved them. f Now, as there is no Saviour but JEHO- VAH, and as CHRIST is confeffedly the Saviour ; it fol- Judg. xiii. 15-22. t-Ifaiah lxiii.
