The Qbrift an is privileged to plead even his very Ignorante, as an Argument of No- Tice, with Chrift his Prophet, and to take up his Pro- miles by Faith.and lay them in Prayer before him. Chrift will think itno Reproach to be put in Mind (as it were) of his Promifes. He giveth Wfdam liberally, and up- hraideth not. No Man, that prayed in Faith for the Wifdom of GOD unto Salvation, ever went without it. He filleth the hungry with good Things : the Rich alone (thole who.prefüme upon their own Capacity and Know- ledge) hefedethempty away. O then, Believer, pray to beemptied more and more of thyfelf, of thy carnal Will, .and of thy unfandtified Knowledge, that thou mayeft be filled with jefus, and with that Wifdom, which leadeth to the Contemplation of GOD, and to the everlatting Enjoyment of him. Neither much or little human Knowledge will hurt thee, if it be fubordinate, in thy Soul, to that which is divine. Learning is an ufeful Servant; but muff never be the Matter. Let it follow thee to Chrift, not lead thee from him. After all, be watchful over it; for it bears a clofe Attachment to Envy, and Pride. When thou art fweetly taught of GOD, thou wilt fee aright in what Rank thou art to place all human Attainments. When thou art led on by 'efus,.a few Minutes of his InftruEtion will make thee wifer, in reality, than all the pompous Knowledge '(or rather fplerdid Ignorance) of the Schools, acquired. in Years. One Lefton from Chrift will make thy Heart burn for more. He will inftruft thee, not only by Lef- fons of Wifdom, but alto by Leffons of Love. He bath promifed to be with his People always, and to the End of the World; and therefore he will be ever with thee, guiding thee by his Counfel, till he hash brought thee to his Glory. Then thou wilt be with him, through the everlafting Ages. O gracious Promife of divine Feli- city ! O heavenly Wifdom ofLife eternal !
