The Sacrifice of the one and the other was a Demonftration, that the Blood or Life of Man was forfeited., and, but for a Sub- ititute, mutt have been loft, and have perifhed for.ever. The Offering of Beafts, which began from the Fall, was .inftituted to commemorate both the Forfeiture of all'that was good in .eldam, and the Means by which ,a Recovery was to be obtained through yefus Chrift. For this Reafon, when Chrift was manifefted in the. Flefh, GOD by his Providence ordered the Removal of thefe Inftitutions and Ceremonies, which were only to typify of Him; andwe find they have been every where difcontinued from that Time, by thofe at leaft who be- lieve either the Old or New Teftament, unto this Day. It may not be amifs to draw a brief Parallel betwixt the Type and the Antitype; the High Prieft of the yews, and the great High Prieft ofall that believe, both Jews and Gentiles. The High Prief under the Law was confecrated to JEHOVAH, for the Purpofe of prefenting and offering the Gifts, the Prayers, and Services, of the Peuple. There was to be no Man in the Tabernacle of the Con- gregation, when the High Prieft went in to make the Atonement in theHoly Place; nor was anyone permitted to enter, till he carne out and had finifhed the folemn Service. * So the bleffed yefus trod the Wine-Prefs of *, Lev. xvi. 17.
