And the Apoftle Peter preaches to the Church, that an Entrance Jhall be minfired abundantly into the EVERLASTING KINGDOM of our Lord and Saviour refus Thefe, and other Texts, fully prove, that the Kingdom of refus is the Kingdom of rehovah, be- caufe it is an everlafling Kingdom ; and that refus was rebovab, becaufe refus had that Kingdom to bellow, as his own, upon his People. But, if there had been no pofitive Evidence of this Truth to be derived from the exprefs Words of Scripture ; the very Enemies, which the Lord refus had to vanquifh and deliroy for his Church, would furnifh, us with a ftrong and convincing Proof, that he mull be far above Angels and Men, and no other than the omnipotent GOD himfelf. Satan, like thefirong Man armed, had forced the Poß'efiìon of Man, and would have bound him like a miferable Captive for ever, had not Chrß been ftronger than the united Force both of him and his. The Devil has had very great Influence in all Ages ; and particularly before the Manifeftation ofChrift, who came to deftroy the Powers of Darknefs, to confound the idolatrous Attention that was paid to them and their Oracles, and to eftablifh a perpetual Victory over them. Hence Satan is called the Prince of thePower of the ,lir, the Spirit working in, the Children of Difobedience, the Prince of this World, by other Names, expreffive of his fubtle and mighry, Agency. Nay, his very Adherents and Dependants are ftyled Principalities, and Powers, and the Rulers of the Darknefs of this World, the Authors offpiritual Wickednefs in the Heavens, as well as on the Earth. Befides all thefe, there, was a Law flood out againft Man, at once proclaiming its own Purity, and his utter Apoftacy and Defection.
