Hete is the eternal love of the Lord Jefus to his People, and thus the eternal efiicacy,of the word does continue. g. Vfeisof exhortation. Oh Brethren and beloved in the Lord Jefus, may a Chriftian hear the Word ofGod fpoken, and yet never hear God (peak ? mayhe hear it externally and not internally ? theereft not incm-email hearing, and with fome little movings, and affeaions, and ftirrings ofthe Word ofGods grace in hearing. Let not the Wordbe to you as the found of many waters, and a noife, no efficacy of the Word that do remain on your finales. Brethrenand beloved in Chrift, h lay my finger on thefore in rhefe times. I conceive two things are to be done, that the wordmay come with an everlafting efficacy ; although fomething is to be done by Minifters; that is, to preach truth, and Gofpel-truth, fetch't from heaven with many prayfers,& foaked truth withmany tears. The Spirit ofGod when he commeth, he convinceth the world offn. Let Miniftes do fo. Preach convincing truth and Gofpel- truth, fetch'd from heaven, and bathed in tears. Oh brethren, let the fire burn clear, let there not be more fmoak than fire, it will never come with power then ; convincing Gofpel-truth, fet onby the demonftra- tión ofthe Spirit of the Lord, and this will fet a Chriftian at liberty ; there is never fuch a Sermon that the faith- ful ones of God preach to you ; if it come nor with a power to loofen you and call you home ; it comes with a power to blind you it is an ax at the root of the Trees ; but I leave this.
