Where now is love to Chrift and to Religi- SB R..XVII on ~ He that loves Chrift loves him the more for hiscroffe, as the Holy-Ghofi bath f('Corded of fome , that they rejoyced that they were thought worthy to fuffer for Chrift. So the more we fuffer fot· him, the more deare be will be to us. For indeed he dorh prefent himfelfe (. in love and comfort mofl to thofe th~t fuf· fer for his fake, therefore their love is increa– fed. Againe"·, where love is, there it enlargeth the heart, which being enlarged enlargeth the tongue alfo. The Church hath ·never enough of cornmending Chrifl:, and of fetting out his praife, the tmgue if looftd, heuuft the hurt u loofed. Love will alter a mans difpofition, as we [(e ill experience, a man bafe ofnature, Love will make him liberall, he that is tonguetitd, it will make him eloquent, let a man love Chrift, and though before he conld not fpeake Ia WGrd in the commendation of Chrifl:, and 3· Love enlargeth the heart a'IIJ tongue in the prai./esofChrift for a good caufe, yet (I fay) if the love of · - Chrift be in him, you fhall have him f~eake 1 and labour earneftly in the praifes of God. j This hot affe~ion, this heavenly fire, will fo mould and alter him , that he fhall be cleane another man, as wee fee in the Church here, after that there was kindled a fpirit of love in her, fhe cannot have done wirh Chri£1, when fhe had fpoke what fhe could, fhe adds, he is ttltogether lovely .
