Many complaine that they heare manygood things , but yet they (laynot with them;but areToone forgotten;& hence may begin ro conceiue that the meare was faultie, either not inough , but rawe, or too cold,or otherwife; but let them knowe aflìrredly,that the fault was in their owne cold flomacks, which wanted zeale and loue to the truth to warme them; for we eafilyforget not the things we loue: or els fame finne like the predominance of a bad humor hath ouercharged them, which muff bepurged by renewing repentance; which beeing done, wifedonie requireth that men doe for their foules , as they doe for their bodies ; in which if the meare flay not till it be digeffed,or becaufe al -' though it be digeffed it flaieth not neither,howfoeuer a man rerurnes to hismeare againc: euen fo repaire thou vnto thyordinary meales againe, heare preparedly,and thou (halt at leaf renewe thy flrength againe: and if thou lìndef thy flomack weake fill, looke as menof weake flomacks before meat prepare themwithfome warme thing , and after clofe them vp againe with fome preferue or other : fo mull thou with prayer and reading prepare and warme thy affection before, and clofe vp the ffo- macke with prayer andmeditation after: by the former,the fpirit is ob- tained,which bringeth things to the remembrance: by the latter,things are held as a mans own,being as Prongvinegar to the nofe,co hold that inwhichotherwife would be prefently cal vp againe. 4.
