412 The Danger of all known Sin, both from, &c. Vol. I. But this is but a (mall Confderation, in Companion of a Judgment of another World, which we who call our felves Chriltians, do profefs to believe, as one of the ChiefArticles of our Faith. The Confederation of this (hould check and cool us in the heat of all our finful Pleafures ; and that bitter Irony of Solomon should cut us to the heart ; Rejoyce 0 young Man in thy youth, and let thy heart chear thee in the days of thy youth, andwalk in the ways of thy heart, and in the fight of thine eyes ; but know, that for all thefe things God will bring thee into judg- ment. Think often and ferioufly on that time, wherein the wrath of God, Which is nowrevealed againfifsn, (hall beexecuted upon Sinners ; and ifwe believe this we are ftrangely flupid and obltinate, if we be not moved by it. The affurance of this made St. Paul extreamly importunate in exhorting Men to avoid fo great a danger, 2 Cor. S. r o, r e. We muff all appear before the Judgment Seat of Chriff, that every one may receive the things done in the Body, according to what he hath done, whether it be good or evil. Knowing therefore the terrors of the Lord, we per- fwade Men. And if thisought to move us to take fo great a care of others, much more of ourJanes. The Judgment to come is a very amazing Confideration, it is a fearful thing to hear of it, but it will be much more terrible to fee it, efpecially to thofe whofeguilt muff needs make them fo heartily concern'd in the difmal Confequences of it ; and yet as lure as I (land, and you fit here, this great and terrible Dayof the Lord will come, and who may abide his coming! What will we do, when that Day (hall furprize us carelefs and unprepared ! what unfpeakable horror and amazement will then take hold of us ! when lifting up our eyes to Heaven, we Jisall fee the Son ofMan coming in the Clouds of it, with Power, andgreat Glory; when that powerful voice which (hall pierce the ears of the Dead (ball ring through the World, Arife ye Dead, and come to yudgment; when the mighty Trumpet (hall found, and wake the Sleepers of a thoufand years, and fummon the difperfed parts of the Bodies of all Men that ever lived, to rally to- gether and take their place; and the Souls and Bodies of Men which have been fo long (hangers to one another, shall meet and be united again, to receive the doom due to their deeds ; what fear (hall then furprize Sinners, and how will they tremble at the prefence of the great Judge, and for the glory of his Majefly ! Howwill their Confcience fly in their Faces, and their own Hearts condemn them, for their wicked and ungodlyLives, and even prevent that Sentence which yet (hall certainly be paft and executed upon them. But I will proceed no fur- ther in this Argument, which hath fo much ofterror in it. I will conclude mySermon, as Solomon doth his Eccleflafies, Ch. r2. 13, 14. Letus hear the conclufîon of the whole matter fear God, andkeep his Commandments, for this is the whole of Man ; for God (hall br; ing everywort¿ into Judgment, and eve- ryferret thing, whether it be good, or whetherit be evil. Towhich I will only add thatferious and merciful Admonition ofagreater than Solomon, I mean the great Judge of the wholeWorld, our bleffed Lord and Saviour, Luke sr. 34, 35, 36. Take heed to your felves, lell at any time your hearts be overcharged with forfeiting, and drunkennefs, and the cares of this Life, and fo that day come upon you at una- wares. For asa fnare fhall it come on allthem that dwell on the face of the whole Earth. Watch ye therefore, and pray always, that ye may be accounted worthy to efcapeall theft things that(hall come to paft, and tojlandbefore the Sonof Man; To whom with the Father, and the Holy Ghoft, &c.
