TfieStnnd Sermon on For we mull all appear before the Judgment Seat of Chilli, that every' reR:. ,i, one may receive the Things done in his Body, according to that he i'o bath done, whether it be good or bad. 1. ì: N thefe Words, betides the general Point mainly intended, concerning the Certainty of a future and general Judgment, there are likewife feveral '1t' particular Propofitions. Firfi, That the Adminifiration of this Judgment, is committed to the Lord Joins Chrift. Secondly, That all Men are liable to this Judgment. Thirdly. That all the Aelions which Mcn have done in this Life, (hall then come to account, and they (hall be judged for them. Fourthly, That this Sentence(hall be pafs'd upon Men, according to the Na- ture and Quality of their A&ions, whether Good or Evil. I have handled the general Point, the Certainty of a Future Judgment : I fhall now pro- ceed to the particular Propofitions contained in the Text, and (hall handle them in the Order in which I have propofed them. hirfl, That the Adminiftration of this Judgment is committed to the Lord jefas Chrift, and that he is the Perfon conftituted and ordained of God, to be the Judge of the World. The Tribunal before which we mull ftand, is here in the Text called the yudgment Seat ofChrift. We mull all appear before the Judgment Seat of Chrid. In the Prolecution of this, I (hall, FirJI, Endeavour to confirm and illu(trate the Truth of this Propofition. Secondly, Draw force Inferences from it, by way of Application. Firfi, For the Confirmationof it, I (hall do thefe two Things : L Prove it from clear Teftimony of Scripture. II. Endeavour to give Come Account of this Oeconomy and Difpenfation ; why God hath committed the Adminiftration of this great Work to the Lord Jefes Chrift; in all which I (hall rely only upon Scripture, the Thing being capable of no other Proof or Evidence. And indeed, the whole Me- diatory Undertaking of our Blefièd Saviour, and all the Circumiances of it, are Matter of pure Revelation g this is the hidden and manifold Wifdom of God, whir I: none of the Princes andPhilofophers of this World knew, and which we could not pofibly have found out and difcovered, had not God been pleafed to reveal it to us. I.
