Senn, xxvi. Of the Perfons nho, are to bejudgcd. 5 fearched, Sea and Land, that none may efcape this Judgment. For which Rea- fon it feems to be called by the Apoflle St.7ude, v. 6. the judgment of theC;ireat Day; for that will be a Great Day indeed, in which all Men that ever lived in the World [hall appear and receive their Tryal. . The Sum of all is this : That all Perfons that ever were upon the Face of the Earth, none excepted, of what Sex or Age, of what Rank or Quality, 'of what Country or.Nation, in what Times or Places foever they were born or lived ; high or low, rich or poor, knowing or ignorant,,. good or bad, youngor old, the greateft Princes and Potentates, as well as the meaneflSub- je&s and Slaves ; the deepeft Statefinen and Politicians, the learned Clerks and Difputers of this World, as well as the idiots and the Simple; in. fhort all, without any Diftindionor Exception, without any Privilege or Refpe&of Perfons, (hall at this Great Day appear before this high Tribunal, and give an Account of, themfelves, and all their A&ions, and receive the proper Doom and Sentence refpe&ively due to them. I proceed to the I[d Thing I. propofed, which was to confirm this yet farther by Arguments drawn fromReafon and Scripture together. And this will appear, whether we confider the. Nature of Man, or the Nature of God, And, r. If we confider the Nature of Man: We are all God's Creatures, who have received all that we have from him, and depend, wholly opon him, and are entirely fabled to him, to be governed by fuçh Laws as he bath pre- fcribed to us, and to be accountable to him for our Obfervance or Violation 'of them ; all this is effentially included in the Nature of a reafonable Crea- ture, and as fuch we all Rand equally related to him. As we are Creatures, We arenot our own, but wholly another's, and perfe&ly at the Difpofal of him who made us, and from whom we received, all that we have : And as we are 'reafonable Creatures, we are all equally endowed with free Choice and Power over our A&ions; by the good or bad Life whereof, we are capable of doing well or ill, and confequentlyof deferving well or ill for our Doings, and of receiving Rewards and Punifhments accordingly : We are all capable of being governed by Laws, and therefore under the Authority ofGod, as our Law- giver, and liable and accountable to him as our Judge. And, all this is neceflary andunivcrfal, becaufe it is confequent upon the Conditionof our Nature and Being; and whoever pretends to he exempted from the Judgment of God, he muit exempt himfelf out of the Creation of God, he mutt denythe,God that made him, and renounce his Relation to hint as a Creature, mufldifclaim his Dependance upon him, dnd Subje&ion to him he mutt withdraw himfelffrom the Authority and Jurifdi&ion of the univerfal Kingof theWorld, and declare that he bath nothing to do to rule over him, that he doth not Rand obliged to him for his Being, nor did receive from him thofe Talents of Life, and Health, and lleafon, and other Blefiìngs which be en-. joys, and confequently that be is not concerned tomake any Improvements of them, being accountable to none for the good or bad tiifeof them. Now if any Man can think thus, that he is none of God's Creatures and Subje&s, he may hope to decline and efcape his Judgment : But every Man that owns God for his Creator and Sovereign, mutt yield himfelf to be fub jet to his Laws, and liable to his Judgment. Upon this Account the Apo- file St. Paul concludes all the VVorid, the Gentiles as well as the yews, to be li- able to the Judgment of God ; becaisfe they are all equallySubje& to his Laws. Rom. 3. Ig. Now we know, fays he, that whatfoever Things the Lawfaith, it faith to them who are under the Law, that every Mouth may be flopped, and all the World, that is, both Yews and Gentiles, may become guilty before God. In the Greek it is that all the World may be fubjeEd, or liable to the Judgment of God. Now tho' this be immediately fpoken of the yews, who were under a written Law ; yet he had told us before it what Senfe the Gentiles alfo, as well ..,as Rthe 7ews, are under the Law of God, Chap: 2. 14. For when the Gen- tiles, which have not the Law, do by Nature the Things contained in the Law, thefe having not the Law, are a Law to themfelves, frewing the Work (or Effie&) of the X Law 3
